FMCW Radar

What is FMCW Radar?

Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar has been used by military, automotive, marine applications for many years. Also, FMCW radar has found applications in industrial process control systems. It has several advantages over other radar techniques including lower radiated power requirements and relatively simple radio frequency (RF) front end electronics.

FMCW radar block diagramThe figure shows a very simple FMCW system. The VCO generates the frequency modulated radar which is amplified and sent to the mixer and circulator. The radar signal passes through the circulator and is transmitted by the antenna. The received signal is mixed with the transmitted signal and the result forms the output from the radar.

Our Customers Win by Choosing the MPT Advantage

Our customers benefit by choosing our FMCW solutions because of capability to integrate the components to meet requirements. Since FMCW systems and their components are rather ubiquitous, one advantage to be gained from new systems is in the packaging and interconnect methods. Our customers win because we apply technical know-how in packaging at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies to achieve products that achieve customer requirements for cost, performance and reliability.
